Link to Page 

The Link, or Link Picker, dialog controls Link Management or the action performed when hyperlink text or an image is clicked by the user. At its most basic the Link will take the user to, or open, another page in the app or to another web resource. However, more sophisticated controls are also provide, some of which are context aware.

Link Functions


Link to Local Page

Edit the page or text surface and locate the link control section in the Text Editor.

 

To make text or an object link to another web resource or an Anchor:

  1. In the Text Editor select the object  or highlight the the text.
     
  2. Click the link (chain) icon.

    The Picker dialog will be shown: 

     
  3. Select your link action.

    The app site tree will be displayed. Select the desired destination.


     
  4. Click [OK]

Linking to a Table or Data Entry Form

If the link created is to a Table or a Data Entry Form a secondary Action becomes available.

This Action is visible, but greyed out and inaccessible, for other links.

The link can be used to to perform an Action in the destination Table, to Add, Edit or Remove a Record.


 

A checkbox option is provided to Append query paging parameters to the link Action.



Link to Local Relative Page

The Link to Local Relative Page Previous and Next options give a shortcut to linking in a series of pages - say documentation or contracts that form a suite of content.

Previous and Next refer to the destination's relative position in the Layout Manager Site tree.

Linking to the Current Page is normally associated with linking to a local Anchor, so that you can move the user down, or up, the displayed page to a specific location.

How to link to an Anchor on the same page.

  1. Set an anchor point by highlighting some text.
     
  2. Click the Anchor (flag) icon in the Text Editor toolbar.

     
  3. In the dialog that opens give the Anchor a unique name. For instance; anchor

     
  4. Then, in the Text Editor, select the origin text (where you want to jump from) and highlight it.
  5. Open the Link Picker (chain icon) from the Text Editor toolbar.

     
  6. Select the Options tab


     
  7. Enter anchor in the Anchor dialog
     
  8. Click [OK]

How to link to an Anchor on a different page.

  1. Follow the same procedure outlined above, but provide an URL as appropriate.
     
  2. If the location is on a different site then provide the full URL


     
  3. If the location is on the same site/app then you may use the Local Page picker.


     
  4. Alternatively, you can use the shortened URL-form   ../  for local use:   ../DirectURL or page number   ../161


     
  5. Then use the Options-tab in the Link dialog to set the Anchor, and any other appropriate controls.

Link to External URL

To link to an external URL - a webpage on a different domain - select [x] External URL

If you are copying and pasting then the dialog will automatically select the prefix, otherwise manually select from the dropdown.

Supported external link types are:

  • FTP:
     
  • HTTP:
     
  • HTTPS:
     
  • ITPC:
     
  • MAILTO:

SEO & External URL usage

You may also create explicit URL links to local pages by entering the full URL just as if it was to an external location. 

Use this for SEO management or any situation where you want the explicit link to show.
